Glass Furnace Electrode or Booster
A glass furnace electrode or booster is a specialized electrode installed in a glass melting furnace to provide additional electrical energy directly into the molten glass. These electrodes are part of an electric boosting system, which supplements the primary heat and improves furnace performance, productivity, and energy efficiency.
Electrode or boosters are typically manufactured from high-temperature-resistant materials because of their excellent electrical conductivity, corrosion resistance, and ability to withstand the harsh conditions inside molten glass. The electrodes are inserted through the furnace sidewalls or bottom and connected to a transformer that supplies controlled electrical power.
When electrical current passes between electrodes through the molten glass, the glass itself acts as a resistive heating medium — generating heat directly within the glass bath.
